Staging Your Home – Don’t Ditch It, Donate It (or Store It)!

If you’re planning a move, you may also be trying to sell your home. And if you’re selling your home, you probably want to get the highest possible selling price!

One of the easiest and most common ways to increase the sale price of your home is what real estate professionals call “staging” your home – getting everything clean, neat, tidy, and cosy. You want potential buyers to feel like your house is a nice and comfortable place to live, and having furniture and everyday items in your home helps to give that impression. It’s always easier to sell a home with furniture in it than an empty house.

However, if your home is cluttered or has a bit “too much” of your personality, it can make it more difficult for potential buyers to imagine filling the house with their own items. That’s why the staging process is not just about cleaning, but also about reducing the amount of “stuff” inside your home.

There are three ways that people will usually reduce the amount of clutter in their homes:

Dump it – this is the worst way! You’re adding items to a landfill, and often paying for waste removal. This should be your last resort, only for items without any useful life.

Donate it – this is a great way to give your used items a new lifeTROSA Moving is more than a mover – it’s part of a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. This means that if you would like to donate your items to TROSA, that donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law. Just call the TROSA Thrift Store and Donation Center at (919) 220-6119 to schedule a free pickup of any large items you have to donate, or drop items off at the store during regular store hours. The store is just north of downtown Durham at 3500 N. Roxboro Rd, near Duke Regional Hospital and Durham County Stadium. Whether you’re planning to downsize, or you just want to replace your current furniture in your new home, donating is a great way to go green, support a good cause, and You can also set aside items to donate on the day of your move, but the more you can donate in advance, the easier it is to effectively stage your home!

Store it – If you know that you want to keep all of your stuff, but it’s not helping to have toys, knick knacks, and other items covering your floors and counters, storage may be the perfect solution. Avoid unsightly PODS and get peace of mind with TROSA’s secure storage vaults, which are kept in a climate-controlled and fully alarmed building. We offer rack storage for oversize items too, so get that canoe out of the corner of your rec room and we’ll keep it safely wrapped on one of our racks!
